NC: Ain’t that Amerika?

Via LH

paramilitary team operated by North Carolina’s Wilson County Sheriff’s Office recently executed what was described as a “high risk search warrant” on a narcotics suspect. The members of the “Emergency Response Team,” clad in black armor, bucket helmets, and balaclavas, found what “nearly a pound of marijuana” – which could be the yield from a single healthy plant – and a single handgun.

A photograph taken by an embedded correspondent for the Wilson Times newspaper showed two of the masked SWAT operators in full military regalia. One of them bore, ‘mid snow and ice, a tactical shield inscribed with a strange device – “Defender.”

To those not of an Orwellian cast of mind, it’s not clear what or whom the stormtroopers were defending. Peace officers don’t dress that way, nor do they conduct military-style raids to arrest people suspected of non-violent offenses. Perhaps most importantly, peace officers don’t wear masks to hide their identity from the people they are supposedly protecting.

  1. A phrase that my dad would use was: "I may have been born in the dark, but it wasn't last night". So, would some one kindly please inform the Sgt, that what they are doing IS a military raid. And viewing the citizen population as "the enemy" is NOT how you win their hearts and minds (aka co-operation and respect). Please dont' try to BS me, I know that is exactly how the LEOs view the rest of us. We are the enemy to them and we are assumed to be guilty till proven guiltly in a kanagoroo court of injustice..
As is stands now, yes, LEOs do have extra rights and privilages. They can assault, torture, rape and muder any one, whos misforture is to get in their way. And they have their "get out of jail' card; all they have to say is that the suspect/victim "resisted arrest" and the officer "feared for his safety".
Now the bad news, things will get much, much worse. Military style use of force will be/is the new normal. I suppose helicopter gunships is next for the LEOs. It will be for our own good you know.
