North Carolina’s Ocracoke Island has the third best beach in America, according to a national beach researcher.
According to Dr. Stephen Leatherman, a professor at Florida International University who also is known as “Dr. Beach,” Ocracoke Lifeguarded Beach on the Outer Banks is a stand out in his survey of the 650 public beaches in the U.S.
He says: “Ocracoke, once the home of Blackbeard the pirate, is still a special place—it is my favorite getaway beach.

Always number one for me, especially during "off season," where the distance to the next person is measured in hundreds of yards, instead of inches.
ReplyDeleteI actually prefer the Emerald Isle beach, but love the town of Ocracoke.
DeleteI agree with Anon. Always went before Memorial Day where
ReplyDeletethe beaches were all mine.
Just got back from the Emerald Isle Pier as I do each night about this time. Not too bad, considering the holiday, so tomorrow should be about the same and then back to normal, thankfully.
DeleteNC also has pretty mountains, hills.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious how the Gulf beaches are. Like Alabama. Never been to their beaches. I'm not really a beach person though. Boats are fun at least.
Come visit.
