Who knew that making a professional vulgarian and an infamous kook a face of your political movement could be so risky?
There will be many millions of pixels wasted in the name of debating whether ABC was right or wrong to terminate Roseanne Barr’s eponymous sitcom after the comedian likened a former White House official of black ancestry to an ape.
If you feel obliged to have an opinion on that subject your view is likely shaped by your politics and is therefore something of a foregone conclusion. The same goes for your estimation of her show in the first place.
So powerful is the draw of political tribalism that people are now increasingly able to turn their tastes on a dime in order to conform with what is politically correct.

My thoughts:
ReplyDeleteABC figured a modern Roseanne show that leaned right instead of left would give so-so ratings at best and if it flopped they could pull the plug. It became the seasons highest rated show and it was because of support of the Trump administration. The suits at ABC lost their minds trying to figure out why that happen and how could they shut it down. There have been other actors that have been just as crass as Roseanne Barr with comments about past republican administrations and they were given a pass. The comment was the ammunition the ABC suits could use as a way of shutting down the show.
BTW: I did not watch any of the new episodes as I found Roseanne to be too crass and vulgar for my low standards. I also watched very few of the original Roseanne show for the same reason.
Thanks and I watch TV no more.
DeleteI wonder what ABC's response would have been if the tweet said something "hurtful" about Melania Trump?
ReplyDelete3 guesses and and the first 2 don't count. :)
DeleteIf Rosanne was a Democrat who made similar remarks about a Republican President (or ex-President) she would probably still have a job. However, I have no sympathy for her. Play this video to find out why.

I don't have a voice box but could probably do better than that. :)
DeleteRoseanne just spoke for all the awake Americans.
ReplyDeleteRoseanne just confirmed what awake Americans think.
