I'm sure we all were afraid of this news.

  1. That answer that. You will be sorely missed and revered for your insight, your gentle way of truth. May God cradle you in warmth and Heavenly Treasure. Rest in Eternal Peace. You are with your beloved wife Remus, God Speed.

    1. The 3 weeks surprises me as the fastest I have heard is 1 to 3 months.

    2. Depends on what type of cancer and how far along it has progressed. Remus may have been aware of it and not shared it with us as he seemed to be a private person, or, he wasn't aware of it until the last,, what with caring for his late wife he might not have been. My father suffered something similar. My mother died of dementia and my father died 4 months later of a Glioblastoma Multiforma in his right temporal lobe of his brain. I being a nurse was not aware of how insidious it was until it was diagnosed two month prior to his death. I thought it was the fatigue and shock of losing his wife of fifty years. Remus was a giant among men.

    1. There will never be another. Sharp as a tack, as my Mother would say.

    3. Just checked:

      Saved 523 times between October 30, 2007 and June 23, 2020.

      Wonder why there are that few? FNC also.

  5. He was definitely a once in a generation mentor. There are no feet to fill those shoes. Not ashamed to admit my eyes misted up a bit this morning at the news. Fair winds and God Bless.

  6. A great loss indeed. But I choose to give thanks to God that Ol Remus lived. I am the better for having read his blog over the years. I have discovered new items of interest. I am in awe of his command of the English language and his ability to turn a phrase.

    Thank-you Ol Remus. I consider it a high honor to have been a reader of your blog.
    I humbly submit this poem as a tribute to Ol Remus. I think he would approve of it.

    When Earth’s Last Picture Is Painted

    When Earth’s last picture is painted and the tubes are twisted and dried,
    When the oldest colours have faded, and the youngest critic has died,
    We shall rest, and, faith, we shall need it-lie down for an aeon or two,
    Till the Master of All Good Workman shall put us to work anew.
    And those who were good shall be happy: they shall sit in a golden chair;
    They shall splash at a ten-league canvas with brushes of comet’s hair.
    They shall find real saints to draw from-Magdalene, Peter, and Paul;
    They shall work for an age at a sitting and never be tired at all!
    And only The Master shall praise us; and only The Master shall blame;
    And no one shall work for money, and no one shall work for fame,
    But each for the joy for the working, and each in his separate star,
    Shall draw the Thing as he sees I for the God of Things as They are!

  7. I always looked forward to reading his posts each Tuesday, and would download to my computer high resolution copies of the paintings that introduced the top of his page.

    Oh, what a loss!

    Oh, what a shock!

    I pray that Heavenly Father will receive and reward this man, a national treasure who bestowed his wisdom for all.

    1. I'm guessing that it was stomach cancer, for as late as many are diagnosed, it could be only 3 weeks. At least he won't see the country go any further down the rabbit hole. I'm lived too long.:(

  9. I just saw this. I am very sorry to hear of it. Tuesdays will never be the same as I enjoyed his writing so very much. God have mercy on his soul.
    Thank you Brock for letting us know.

  10. "So sad, so sad... Sometimes I feel so sad."

    Remus and I shared a few conversations, based upon some common locations and experiences back in the day. This is devastating. The recent loss of his wife, and mother to his children, must have been too much to bear. God help them and all his loved ones. Just know, many of us have benefitted from this truly great man's life, and will never forget him. His life was not in vain.
