Hollywood's Apocalypse NOW: Rich and famous are fleeing in droves as liberal politics and coronavirus turn City of Dreams into cesspit plagued by junkies and violent criminals

Makeshift tents line the popular tourist destination of Venice Beach. 'For Sale' signs are seemingly dotted on every suburban street as the middle classes, particularly those with families, flee for the safer suburbs, with many choosing to leave LA altogether

Gold's Gym has become synonymous with the Hollywood Dream.

Set just a few hundred yards from the ocean in sun-kissed Venice Beach, Los Angeles, Gold's was the backdrop for Pumping Iron, the 1977 documentary which followed a young, unknown Austrian bodybuilder called Arnold Schwarzenegger as he prepared for the Mr Universe contest.

The film turned him into an overnight sensation. He would go on to become a global superstar, marry a member of the Kennedy clan, and become Governor of California.

  1. Rats fleeing a burning ship do not suddenly stop being rats when they get ashore. They should be forced to stay where they are.

  2. Precisely.

They flee the violence, taxes, and policies the "D"s enact... and then vote for more "D" politicians.

    1. If it weren't for the wife I'd move in a heartbeat.

    2. She won't move. She doesn't see the danger.

The irony is strong here: SHE grew up in the USSR; HER PARENTS would gather around the radio to listen to the Voice of America, knowing this was a crime. SHE lived through the collapse of the USSR and while they weren't starving, they saw it pretty close.

And she thinks I'm paranoid for thinking it could happen here.

    3. What NITZAKHON says can also be applied to the Korean and Chinese gun owners in California. Its maddening how these people, if not themselves then certainly their parent's generations, have seen for themselves the brutality of the governments of those countries they fled yet seem at every turn to not apprehend the importance.

They do not see, nay, they deny the value of the 2nd Amendment. Their attitude - yes I am generalizing across a whole ethnicity - is it is not important to them if the law says they should give up or 'turn in' their firearms. I can generalize because that very attitude is consistently and openly displayed on the CalGuns forum. These persons will freely admit the 'roof top Koreans' were an anomaly if not even an abomination to their people. They have not a whit to care nor seemingly to even examine the benefit to their lives or that of the whole population. Their's is firearms are a mere hobby which can be supplanted by a different hobby when the time comes.

All I can reason is it must be a purely American ideal not easily absorbed by those not steeped in it's traditions.

That is interesting and something I hadn't thought of at all.

  4. They need not come to Minneapolis, as it has been ruined by The Party of Evil (aka Democrats) and the riots. "The City of Lakes" is now known as "Mogadishu on the Mississippi". This city was once a great place to live. No more. I have already made the decision to move out of the metro area, and maybe even the state in the near future. It is only a question of how soon.

Thanks and where are you looking?

    2. I spent 40+ years in Minnesota, first in SW rural Minnesota and then around St Cloud. When I retired Minnesota wasn't even close to a desired destination. Central rural Missouri is nice. The Lake of the Ozarks people are friendly, religious, hard working and everybody minds their own business. The only mask mandates are not from the state but from the WallyWorld corporates that think a 5,000 population town needs the same crap as St Louis or Kansas City. Those are the only slow learners.
