  1. If there is any thing that NC DOT does right it is those "wild flower" beds. I know exactly where that one is. Too bad they aren't truely wild because we wouldn't have to pay for them that way but the price is a small one for the beauty they present and the peace of mind that comes from looking at them.

    1. The trouble is they last such a short time and probably cost an arm and a leg. I would vote against spending the money, but I guess considering how much is wasted on really asinine projects, then at least this does have some redeeming factors.

  2. A lot of people don't know this but Lady Bird Johnson started this highway beautification program out of revenue from DUI convictions.

    1. I just knew she was an advocate of this in Texas.

    2. I think Lady Birds program is/was limited to federal highways. It's the reason you see trucks and van trailers
parked in fields with bill boards painted on them because
her program severely limited permanent billboard access.

  3. Well in the case of the plot in your picture, that is a future
road right of way (if the bridge ever gets built) so they have to maintain it someway and the flowers prevent having to mow it several times a season. However, it must cost a good bit to plant those beds.

The worst part of the program is the areas they have planted that are on excess land that the state is no longer using for road right of way but will not give back to the land owners they stole it from.

I guess you mean a new bridge?

Oh man, don't get me started, as half the road in front and on the side of Dixieland is my land which was stolen, as you say, without one cent of compensation.
