The guys at Gear Whores Anonymous dropped the high-resolution image on their Facebook page showing
a pair of Maryland State Troopers who got tasked with guarding
Starbucks in the wake of Saturday’s mall shooting. They claim the two
cops as their own (gear whores), and the photo makes a pretty decent
case for the claim.

The photo makes it clear we no longer have police officers. They are now military law enforcement.

He disparages the Molon Labe he is wearing.
DeleteI disagree, Brock. "Come and take them", right? He's clearly offering resupply to anyone who can take his rig from him. Heck, knock him down and sit on him until he starves...

This photo raises a number of questions in my mind:
ReplyDelete1) Is this a photo of actual cops, or a staged photo using actors?
If it is a photo of actual cops,
2) did they have to be forced to go out dressed like that under threat of losing their job and pension?
3) is the one wearing the "Molon Labe" patch doing so in earnest or as an attempt at mockery of those who do take its meaning seriously?

DeleteIf it is a photo of actual cops,
It is stated so.

Don't know.

I had the same thoughts and guessed he was badgering those who believe in it.
FWIW, I'm pretty tight with local LEO and they have little to no leeway when told where to go and what to wear. Sometimes they feel just plain ridiculous but it's not worth getting written up, with big career implications, over what gear they're told to turn out in. If the chief/brass say to go to the mall dressed for a war then that's what they do.
ReplyDeleteDaniel
...and if the chief says screw constitutionally guaranteed rights, they'll do that too.
ReplyDeleteGotta think of the pension.
Yes and killing innocents pale in comparison to the loss of their pensions.
DeleteMostly true - not entirely but not enough to matter. What *does* back them off is the threat of real danger. I know firsthand if there's a good chance of them getting smoked they will not proceed - even if ordered to. A gung-ho Lt. and a handful of less enthusiastic line guys had an armed suspect cornered. Lt made sure everyone remembered to wear their protective vests to work then said, "OK, let's go get him." "Let's not" was the reply and nobody moved. They waited the perp out and nobody died. True story shared to me by two who were there. "Officer safety" really is tops on their list...

They waited the perp out and nobody died.
DeleteI wish they would do that every time.
Oh, should also add that state troopers (like those in the photo) are known to be total dicks. Even local and county LEO can't stand them as a rule. Some exceptions, but again not enough to matter.
