The Not So Civil War & the Issue of States' Rights

In American schools the Civil War is a one trick pony.  It was all about slavery and that is all it was about.   

There can be no doubt that slavery was a blight upon the History of the United States.  It was incompatible with the inspiring words of our Declaration of Independence,

    "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." 

The very idea of chattel slavery wherein one person can own another and their children, and their children's children unto the furthest generation is an abomination.   The South saw this as their peculiar institution, and they had built an entire culture upon slavery as an economic necessity. For a variety of reasons even the Southern Churches supported and attempted to justify the practice.

However, all of this being said slavery was not the only issue at stake in the Civil War.

  1. The words "Sovereign States " has no meaning to most people. Everyone (here, up North) was taught the war was about slavery and only slavery. We were told nothing else. I'm ashamed to say that I have just begun to learn the truth in my senior years. Does it make any difference? Yes, It does - for me.

    2. Chickenmom is correct. Even in the Western schools I attended, slavery was taught to be the reason for the Late Unpleasantness. But then the West was the newest host for the parasitic Union soldiers to invade after they laid waste to the South.

  2. Ehh, hell no! The only reason slavery was brought in the civil war was because Lincoln didn't have the solders to win!!! Then the emancipation proclamation.....the executive order freed slave, BUT Lincoln only did it to win!!!

    History would like you to think that was all the civil war was about. It was that the north wanted to be where we are today. Fake money, sold out to other countries and a terrorist for being a patriot?

    The south wanted to use silver/gold currency, wanted states rights giving federal government limited powers and slaves were considered property which the north did not like!!!

    All history is based on perception of who is telling the story and who is listening...but the slaves were only freed because a narcissist, bully didn't want to loose!

    Look around the world and you will see division in all cultures, tribes and societies.
    North verses south and east verse west....in America, Germany, Vietnam, Korea so on and so forth...............
