Speed Kills Racial Profiling Study

In an article about police shootings in last Sunday's New York Times (8/31), Michael Wines disputes the conventional wisdom about a disproportionate number of African-Americans being shot by police, saying there are no data one way or another. But Wines revives the canard about blacks being disproportionately targeted in traffic stops.

There actually is a study for that.

Throughout the 1990s, the nation was fixated on tales of jack-booted New Jersey state troopers who were stopping speeders on the turnpike just because they were black! In a 2000 primary debate, Vice President Al Gore sneered at then-New Jersey Sen. Bill Bradley, saying, "Racial profiling practically began in New Jersey, Senator Bradley."

Attorney General Eric Holder recently paid tribute to the myth, claiming that when he was in college, he had been stopped "driving from New York to Washington." He didn't mention how fast he was going.

The story never made sense. How could the troopers tell the race of drivers in speeding cars? Did they wait until the driver rolled down his window and, if he was white, say, "Oh, sorry -- have a nice day!"

  1. Every single cop in this country needs to have a camera attached to their body. Cops don't like being recorded too bad. Its for their protection as well as ours. If a cop is caught turning off a camera they should be terminated. I know we need police, but good Lord I am SICK of all the stories I read daily of their abuse of power. I believe black people have a good reason to hate police in this country, but at the same time black culture needs to stop teaching its ok to be openly hostile to police. But that will never happen so if the stupid police want to protect themselves from being sued they ALL need to wear body cameras.

    1. The problem is that they can't be sued individual, something if changed, would make a huge difference.

    2. And the laws that apply to all of us should apply to all of them. If you point a weapon at a person without just cause they should be arrested for aggravated assault just like you and I would. You run a red light just because you can and not because of an emergency you should be ticketed and or arrested just like you and I would. I am dreaming of course, but the police need to be brought down a peg until they remember they are suppose to be servants and protectors, not our overlords.

    3. Many yes, but I am fortunate as all I have come in contact with over the last 13 years have been gentlemen. Oh, and there was one, most congenial lady. :)

While I agree. It still wouldn't make a damn bit of difference.
Every incident is investigated and police officers cleared of wrongdoing.
Why? Because the entire system is broken, corrupt, self-serving, and can not be fixed from within.

This goes for political system, also. That's why I tune out when people start talking about Ted Cruz becoming President.
Nothing. Will. Change. Until We. Take. It. Back.
It also sickens me that people are so weak, that they can only think that the resolution is finding THE LEADER. This shifts responsible away from oneself.

This goes for everything. This is what happens in the Fourth Turning. Institutions have to be destroyed in order to restart. The only question is, do we let those that have led us on this path - down an even worse path?
Because as Joe Biteme recently vilified the "system" - as if it was someone else who is responsible for this mess, and not the progressives, themselves. Heck, Biteme is a career parasite, he's never had to make payroll, never operated in the real world....why sure, Have another 50 yrs to destroy what's left.

No one is ever held accountable. Started in gvt. Spread to society through social engineering. Affirmative Action. Political Correctness. Feminism. Environmental Regulations, Lawsuits over spilled coffee in one's lap. Welfare and Disability is my Right. Special rights for victims lead to loss of individual rights. The blindfold is off the Lady holding the scales of Justice.

All leading us down the road to serfdom. All leading to the same place. Where the State is All. We are there. And we let it happen.

"We are fast approaching the stage of the ultimate inversion: the stage where the government is free to do anything it pleases, while the citizens may act only by permission; which is the stage of the darkest periods of human history, the stage of rule by brute force.

The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals, one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws.

Civilization is the progress toward a society of privacy. The savage's whole existence is public, ruled by the laws of his tribe. Civilization is the process of setting man free from men.
