GRNC Update: SB 124 & Sen. Brunstetter

An important update …

NC Senate Bill 124 ("Shoot Gun From Inside/To Harm or Incite Fear"): Many of you have expressed concerns that Sen. Pete Brunstetter might have introduced the bill as a means of undermining our recently enacted Castle Doctrine law. Brunstetter has replied he has no such intention and did, in fact, vote for Castle Doctrine.

By all accounts, the bill was introduced at the behest of law enforcement due to a shooting incident inside a Kernersville Walmart. Six lawyers with whom GRNC has consulted feel the bill would not undermine Castle Doctrine, but could have a negative impact on other lawful firearm activities. Sen. Brunstetter has indicated willingness to work with us on language, and GRNC is meeting with his staff on Wednesday. We will keep you apprised of the situation.

  1. This bill needs to be WITHDRAWN. We need to be calling, writing, emailing, and sending messages by any means to this knuckleheaded idiot State Senator (Brunstetter) demanding that he withdraw, not modify, this bill. It is ill-conceived, poorly written, and too easy to be misused by overzealous law enforcement personnel.
