Police, ‘anti-gun’ prosecutor clash with soldiers in area around Fort Hood [VIDEO]

Via avordvet

The conflict between law enforcement and armed military personnel in the community around Fort Hood, one of America’s largest military bases, has recently and repeatedly involved the issue of gun control — and the tension has been exacerbated in part by an Obama-supporting prosecutor described as a “bandleader” of anti-gun efforts in the heavily conservative community.

The conflict reached a fever pitch last month, when Texas police arrested an active-duty Army sergeant for “rudely displaying” a hunting rifle. The sergeant, C.J. Grisham, established an online legal defense fund after he was, in his words, “illegally arrested and disarmed” for carrying the firearm.

“While out hiking with my son through backcountry roads to help him earn his Eagle Scout rank, I was illegally arrested and disarmed without cause. I was thrown in jail and my lawfully owned weapons were confiscated without receipt or notice,” Grisham wrote on the website for the defense fund.

  1. If I'm not mistaken, here in Texas we elect DAs at the county level. If there is an uber-lib DA in Bell County, then the fault lies with the people of Bell County. As ever, the voter, and how the voter thinks, is the problem. I know I sound like Karl Denninger, but it's the truth.

I haven't lived near Fort Hood in a decade, but I think it's safe to say that while the folks who live around the post often declare, "We Support The Troops!", there is no guarantee that they think the same way as those troops, or are willing to make allowances for their transient way of life. My parents' church had to work for years to get over the Townie vs Military divide. Of course, this was also right after the first Gulf War emptied the post and the bedroom communities around it.

Metroplex is owned and operated by Adventist Health System. A search on the Adventist's website (adventist.org) lead me to this:

I think that means they support a renewed AWB and probably gun control in general. I find that sad, because they've done good by my family in the past.

  2. From Michael Yon:

CJ Grisham is a scammer. He set this up, as per normal.

He was sent home from Afghanistan after complaining of mental health issues. He saw no combat, yet complained of fear of rocket strikes and completed only about half his tour. Tens of thousands of other people were at the same base (Kandahar Airfield) and continued to work without whining constantly on the internet, though Grisham spent most of his tour blogging and whining. He never left base.

Grisham is an example of what is wrong with the US Army. Do you think this guy can beat a North Korean?

    1. Thanks. Man, he sounds like a space case. He should be kicked out.

    2. On the other hand, Michael Yon is a controversial fellow. I frankly don't know whom to believe here.

Here's the other side of it, from last year.

  3. Try this again.:)

    Thanks for the info.

Possession of guns by civilians in the United States has increased by an estimated 300 per cent in the past four years. During the same period there has been a staggering increase in armed attacks and resulting deaths.
(The last sentence is incorrect as far as I know)

the sale of automatic or semi-automatic assault weapons should be strictly controlled.
(The writer evidently doesn't realize that everyday hunting rifles are semi-automatics.)

  4. While this person may have been correct under the law, we do not know what he was doing prior to the video. Cops in Texas don't just arrest everyone they see carrying a gun.The PD officers did not seem to have a grasp of what they were saying. I know what Grisham has done since he has been in the military, nothing more than be a royal pain in the ass to everyone around him, up and down the chain of command. He has been in the spotlight before and seems to enjoy it to make up for a particularly unnoteworthy career feeding at the public trough. If the feds do ever give the orders
to confiscate firearms or round people up he is the kind of scum who
would say, "But I was just following orders."

      & retribution will be justified.

  5. What SHOULD happen (but, in reality, probably won't) is that, after initiating a formal military investigation into Sergeant Grisham's arrest, the Provost Marshal at Fort Hood would publicly declare the city of Temple, Texas to be officially "OFF LIMITS" to all personnel stationed at Fort Hood.

Then, just see how fast that action would have a negative impact on their local economy.

I wonder if a few telephone calls suggesting this to the Command Sergeant Major of Fort Hood and III Corps might be a way of beginning such a process?

By the way, I presently reside in the Armed Forces Retirement Home, but my last three (03) years in the United States Army were spent at Fort Hood, where I graduated from the III Corps NCO Academy.

      That would do it.

  6. When the report of Sergeant Grisham's arrest first broke (a few weeks ago), it was immediately posted at the "THIS AIN'T HELL, BUT YOU CAN SEE IT FROM HERE" web site.

However, a few hours later, that report was deleted from the "THIS AIN'T HELL, BUT YOU CAN SEE IT FROM HERE" web site, probably due to a lack of detailed information available at that time, plus the fact that any unwarranted publication of the incident may or may not unduly prejudice the legal case for or against Sergeant Grisham.
