Go on to any gun forum, and it won’t take you long to find people willing to tell you how great the M14 is. How accurate, like a laser, tough as tool steel with no need to baby it or clean it. Powerful as a bolt of lightening, and  how well loved it was by those early users who refused the M16 because they wanted a “real” weapon made of wood and steel….

..     But, is all that really true?  Maybe it is a triumph of nostalgia over common sense and reality.   One truth is, it was never really liked as much as people think they remember.

  1. Yeh yet more silly BS from the Armalight Akbar ARgodgun worshipers.

  2. If it goes bang when you need it that's all that matters. Fixating on a platform is kind of silly IMHO. I like all guns and consider any weapon to be interesting and useful for self defense if it gives one an advantage.

      Precisely.

  3. I own both and while my M1A costs more to maintain and operate, it does one thing significantly better than my AR... turning cover into concealment.
Try this experiment next time you're out shooting, set up two logs of average diameter. shoot one with the AR (you can even use M855 if you have it) and shoot the other with the 7.62x51. The results speak for themselves.

    1. Yes and I'm of the same school: "Why do you use a .45?" Because they don't make a .46.

  4. I'll take the word of the men who used it in actual combat, over some desk jockey.

  5. I would give the M14 a "thumbs up". When I was in BCT, we had issues with the M16. Nowadays, AR's are solid choice just like the AK's. Really, it is matter of personal choice or what works for each individual.

    1. Agreed and I had the M14 in basic also, but all we got of the M16 was to step up to the line, the DI gave you one ready to go and you emptied the mag. That was it. :)
